Sky Force Anniversary

Sky Force Anniversary, a top down shoot 'em up developed by Infinite Dreams, is coming to the PlayStation 4, Playstation 3, and PlayStation Vita this summer according to a Playstation Blog post.

Sky Force Anniversary has a distinct "war" theme to it with enemies consisting of bombers, jets, tanks, ships, and more. The main antagonist is the fascistic General Mantis who assails the player's ship with waves of enemies.

Gameplay consists of what you would expect from a shoot 'em up. Players progress through a level trying to avoid fire while destroying hordes of various enemies with different movement patterns. The player can collect power-ups and increase their ship's capabilities as they proceed through the game. Sky Force Anniversary will also feature a two-player cooperative mode that allows for two ships to be on the same screen fighting together. Local co-op will be limited to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.

Single player will consist of a campaign along with additional challenges such as "no damage" runs. There will also be a new map available every seven days to serve as the level for the game's weekly tournaments. Although the specifics of the tournaments aren't explicitly mentioned, it's likely that it will come down to who can achieve the highest score in homage to the shoot 'em up classics that inspired this title.

Sky Force 2014 is a similar revamp of the original Sky Force available on Android and iOS. Going by the visuals in the trailer for the release it seems likely that Sky Force Anniversary was adapted from that version to the PlayStation ecosystem. The developer has stated that the game will support Cross-Buy which means that buying it one PlayStation platform gives you access to it on the others as well.

Sky Force Anniversary will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita some time this Summer for $9.99 or your regional equivalent.
