The Skaven, a race of horrifying rat-men that live in an underground empire, have been revealed as the fourth playable race for Total War: WARHAMMER II according to a news post on the game’s Steam community page.

Skaven are ratlike humanoids that are prone to infighting in an eternal battle for dominance over everyone and everything – including their fellow brethren. They live in an underground civilization known as the Under-Empire that spans several continents and is ruled by the Council of Thirteen, an organization comprised of 12 powerful Warlords with the thirteenth seat reserved in honor of their dark god the Horned Rat. The creatures are shrouded in myth and legend, and the scholars that dare to speak of them have long speculated about their origins and motives. An in-engine trailer was released to give gamers an idea of what to expect from these terrible creatures:

An army roster for the Skaven has been published on the game’s official websiteTotal War: WARHAMMER II players will be able to select from either Queek Headtaker or Lord Skrolk as their legendary lord to lead their campaign of domination. You’ll otherwise be able to command a variety of melee, ranged, and magical units including the Rat Ogre monstrous infantry, the Plagueclaw Catapult, the Doomwheel, and more.

The Skaven will be playable on launch alongside High Elves, Dark Elves, and Lizardmen. If you’d like to pre-order Total War: WARHAMMER II, you can grab it on Steam for $59.99 or your regional equivalent. It releases on September 28, 2017.

What do you think of the Skaven being added to Total War: WARHAMMER II? Do you feel that the game has another race that should have been added to the game in its place? What race or faction would you like to see be made available to play next? Let us know in the comments below!
