Another Adventure game from one of the masters of the genre in Daedalic Entertainment, Silence: The Whispered World 2, is the spiritual successor to The Whispered World. It is Daedalic’s first next-generation game, having now been confirmed to be on the Xbox One as well as PC and Mac.

A Spiritual Successor may be the best thing there is for The Whispered World. While the game’s story and artwork were widely praised, its voice acting and overuse of adventure game logic (at best) were panned and led the game to be a middling success for them. With a spiritual successor, they aren’t locked into the same characters of trying to continue a story they told or anything else – instead, they can tell a new story with a similar theme and focus, aiming to improve what went wrong.

Point and Click Adventure have been one of the genres that have been most revitalized in recent years. The 2000s were a dark period for much of the genre after the rich and plentiful 90s, but as companies realize there is room for there more between just the AAA market and chasing Call of Duty, companies like Daedalic have emerged in certain niches.

The Story

Silence: The Whispered World 2 will follow of an orphaned teenager named Noah as during a war, he and his sister Renee end up split in the real world. Now he hopes to find her in Silence – the world of dreams. The silence was featured in the first Whispered World and is a dreamlike (appropriately enough), whimsical but dangerous realm, and old friends from then may make appearances again.

One of the interesting pieces of news that have been released about the game from Daedalic so far is that it will, in fact, feature no inventory puzzles. Instead, it will feature contextual and other puzzles that don’t require utilizing items that you picked up 20 hours ago in ways that only adventure gamers can dream up. The lack of an inventory likely also makes it easier to bring to consoles. It is also Daedalic’s first 3d game, for better or worse, is yet to be seen.

Silence: The Whispered World is expected to release in 2015, and you can find the release trailer for the game below, though you'll need to ignore the old date of 2014.
