System Era Softworks' Astroneer has released another update which brings new items and equipment for explorers according to a news post on the game's Steam Community page.

Astroneer is a game where players are plopped down on an alien planet with a tiny starting base and a powerful mining tool that can reshape the planet to your whims. You can collect resources and Artifacts to research in order to build a nice base that lets you produce quality materials for your adventures! Our preview praised the game's mechanical systems, although it's still building out content for the long haul. A little more fun has just been added to the game with the addition of Shredders, Exo Wrecks, and Harvestables!

The first new item added in this Astroneer update is Exo Wrecks. Some of these pieces of equipment are still functional and can be used to get a new base off the ground, but not everything you'll find will be in tip-top shape! That's why the developers have also added the Shredder, a massive machine that can grind up these wrecks (and pretty much anything else) and turn them into Scrap Metal. (A word of caution: putting dynamite in a shredder is a very bad idea.)

Scrap is useless as a crafting item at the moment. Instead, it's used as a form of currency for the Trading Platform. Grind up all the junk you don't need and shoot it off into space! In return, you'll get back some resources that you can use to finish off that project you're working on. While you're running around looking for goodies to grind up, you'll also find new harvestables on Radiated and Arid worlds for you to exploit!

Astroneer is still very much in development, although things are progressing along nicely according to the game's roadmap. You'll need to start a new game if you want to experience some of the new content, especially that which is set on other planets in the game. Check out the patch notes to read about all of the details of this update which also includes UI improvements and minor changes to the rovers. If you don't yet own Astroneer, you can pick it up on Steam or the Humble Store [Affiliate Link] for PC and on the Microsoft Store for Windows 10 and Xbox One for $19.99 or your regional equivalent.
