Welcome to Shoestring Gaming, the weekly segment where we try to help you find some great deals while still keeping within your budget. This week for you readers we have some great games from GOG and Steam, as well as pointing out some of the great free games on consoles.

Unnamed event new to Terraria 1.3

First up from GOG, Terraria is currently 25%, off meaning that you can get this great 2D open world game to do with what you please. In Terraria, you can choose to do whatever you want, whether it be fight, explore or build. Take on all manners of creatures from rabbits and skeletons, all the way to flying giant eyeballs—and that’s meant to be the easy boss. Head left, or even right, and see what the world is like that surrounds you, as each world is generated as you walk around. Finally, with all of the drops from monsters and resources from across your world, you’re able to build a village and get NPCs to come and create a community. This is as great a time as ever to join Terraria as the latest update gives players plenty more to do in the world.

Secondly, if you would rather a 3D open world than a 2D open world, then you can get Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition for 75% off; the only catch is that this promotion ends very shortly, so be sure to grab it fast if you want to. In Sleeping Dogs, you get to live the life of Wei Shen, an undercover cop in Hong Kong, who is trying to take down the triads from the inside out. This game takes the open world adventures of games like GTA and puts you in the gritty underworld of Hong Kong, where you can partake in illegal street races and bet on cock fights in your down time. The Definitive Edition also gives you all 24 previously released DLC expansions.

Finally, for the Xbox and PlayStation users, a new month means new free games for GWG or PS+. This month Xbox One users get Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and So Many Me; Xbox 360 users get Plants Vs Zombies and Gears of War 3; PlayStation 4 users get Rocket League and Styx; PlayStation 3 users get Rain; those with a PSVita will get Geometry Wars 3; and all Playstation consoles get MouseCraft and Entwined. If there isn’t a game in there that’s worth owning, then I don’t know what you’ll appreciate at all.

What do you think of this weeks selection of games? Are there any places you go to to look for fantastic sales? Are there any big deals that I have missed?

I have been playing all kinds of games for as long as I can remember with a particular interest in action adventure and platforming titles. While I am primarily an Xbox gamer I also spend a fair bit of time on the PS4 and on my PC in VR.
