Welcome back to Shoestring Gaming, where we look at some of the best video game deals that might have passed under your radar. For the sake of brevity, we will forgo some of the more prominent deals on the front page of Steam, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Marketplace deals. This week features a lot of bundles and Steam deals up for grabs as well as the start of the PlayStation Store Summer Sale.

Whether this is a deal is debatable, but it is something that definitely should be noted, and that is the latest Nvidia Geforce game bundle. If you buy certain Nvidia GPU’s (960, 970, 980, 980ti) or any netbook that includes a 970m or 980m, you will receive a free copy of Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain. While not exactly a deal, it might be the deciding factor for those of you looking for an upgrade. AMD are likely to follow suit, and there are rumors that AMD are likely to bundle Star Wars Battlefront 3 along with their latest GPUS.

Looking over to Bundle Stars we have the Shadow of Mordor bundle, which includes the 2 major DLCs Bright Lord and Lord of the Hunt. Also included is the season pass DLC, which includes character skins, challenges, and new members of Sauron’s ranks to behead. You can pick all this up for $19.99, a pretty good deal for a very good game under a year old. Sadly, Bundle Stars does not give a date for the end of the deal.

Looking deeper into Steam, we can see a couple of nice little deals. First off we have Roundabout at 60% off, which you can pick up for $5.99. Roundabout was a game that flew under a lot of people’s radar last year but received a pretty positive reception. It’s for those of you who want Sega CD FMV cutscenes mixed with a broken Crazy Taxi.

Also trawling through the incidental Steam specials we find Retro City Rampage DX available for $2.99—a game that got lost in the huge amount of nostalgia bait 8-bit send ups that are a dime a dozen on Steam. Reports are this game stands above a lot of those, with a good sense of humor and gameplay that harkens back to the old GTA games, as opposed to the generic platformer direction typical of a lot of “retro” games.

On TechTaptor’s own Games Republic store, we have a couple of sales going on, most notably 75% off Enslaved Odyssey to the West Premium edition. You can pick up this rather underrated little adventure game for $4.99.

Red Faction Armaggedon Steam

Also at Bundle Stars we have the Red Faction Collection at 80% off for $11.99. This is a sweet little deal that includes  Red Faction, Red Faction 2, Red Faction Guerrilla and Red Faction Armageddon + the soundtrack and the Path to War DLC. This deal will give you every game in the entire series. For those of you wanting generic but mindless destruction, the Red Faction series should be on your radar.

I’ve only chosen 2 of the deals at Bundle Stars, but we left a few out, see the rest for yourself.

As with last week, we have the Humble Jumbo Bundle 4 going strong as a fantastic deal on a load of great indie titles. As with last week, in the first tier (the pay what you want tier) we have Outland, Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes and Mercenary Kings. Pay more than the average, now at $5.24, we have Endless Space: Emperor Edition and The Stanley Parable. The new additions to the Bundle are Screencheat, Freedom Planet and Coin Crypt. If you drop more than $18 on the bundle, you will get the Early Access game Space Engineers on top of everything else. Not to mention you will also get 6 soundtracks—including Freedom Planet’s OST, which is pretty much worth the $6 by itself.

PlayStation Store Summer Sale

PlayStation Summer Sale 2015

Taking a break from PC, we look towards the PlayStation Summer Sale. This sale is on until August 11th, and you have plenty of great titles to choose from this week—whether you’re a PS+ member or not. To help narrow the choice down, we’ll pick some greats that might go unnoticed. Just to note, to my knowledge, these sale prices are only representative of the U.S. and Canada. Also it’s worth noting that you will get an extra 10% off on these titles if you are a PS+ member.

Firstly, Double Dragon Neon is on sale for $3.00. This game is a wonderful revisit to a classic series. It gained a lot of positive reviews and stands on its own as a great little arcade beat-em-up.

Secondly we have Dino Crisis 1 and 2 for $3.00 each. If you are a fan of old Resident Evils, you owe it to yourself to play these games. Very rarely talked about, the Dino Crisis games are excellent little examples of tank control survival horror that stand up there with the best. If you are looking for a more typical survival horror experience, go for the first game. If, however, you want something a little more action packed, go for the second.

Next up we have Luftrausers for $4.00. A fun little arcade shoot ’em up that that will be a perfect time waster on a Vita. At full price on a console, it could be seen as a little bare bones, but the game itself is a lot of fun and a steal at either price.

Finally, we have Dust: An Elysian Tail, available for $6.00. Though this game goes on sale a lot, I don’t know many who have played it. Dust is a sidescrolling action game with a surprisingly decent combat system and some amazing artwork.

Other Deals

Wolfenstein the New Order

At the end of this rather long list, we have some other great deals. On the Xbox One, we have a copy of Wolfenstein the New Order going for $15. For those of you who are fans of the simpler and sillier days of FPSs, then this game is for you.

Lastly we have The Last of Us Remastered, available from Newegg as a PS4 digital download for $11.99. A pretty damn solid deal for a fantastic remaster of one of the best rated games of last generation. If you haven’t checked this game out, you have no excuse.

What do you think of the selection this week? Are there any games that we missed or that you’d like to pick up yourself?
