Welcome to Shoestring gaming, a weekly segment where we try to highlight some excellent deals for you so that you can game as much as you want while still keeping within your budget. This week on Shoestring I have found games from the TechRaptor GameFanShop and a couple of indie games from Steam for you to enjoy.
First up is the massive collection of Tomb Raider titles on the TechRaptor GameFanShop. From the 27th of March to the 29th, Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider – Survival Edition, Tomb Raider DLC Collection, Tomb Raider: GOTY Edition, Tomb Raider: Anniversary and Tomb Raider: Legend will all be 75% while the Tomb Raider Collection will be 75% off. The first four of these links are for the Tomb Raider reboot that was released in 2013 in various forms of completeness so whether you want the base game, want the dlc, or want it all then you can get it.
Tomb Raider was a gritty reboot of the franchise where we see Lara Croft go from being a regular girl to beginning her journey to become the Tomb Raider that we know her as. Shipwrecked on a mysterious island it is up to you to fight and survive to uncover the secrets of the island. On top of good third person combat, the game also has a crafting system where you put points into your various skills and weapons in order to become an even more efficient survivor.
Tomb Raider: Legends follows Lara as she seeks to learn more about the death of her mother, explore global locations and fight against mysterious monsters. Lastly, Tomb Raider: Anniversary is a remake of the original 1996 release of Tomb Raider given a graphical update and now runs on an upgraded version of the Legend engine. If you’re a big enough fan of the franchise, then the Tomb Raider Collection contains every Tomb Raider game except for the most recent Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.
Over at Steam the first game that I’m going to highlight is Life of Pixel, a 2D platformer that takes you though retro game styling from various consoles from the early 90’s. You get to play as a pixel and enjoy classic levels from as far back as the Commodore 64 to the NES and even to the original GameBoy. Not only are the graphics similar to the original consoles, there are also plenty of references to games like MegaMan, Streets of Rage and Metroid. Life of Pixel is currently 50% off on Steam.
Lastly and a bit dino themed is JumpJet Rex, another retro inspired platformer where, as the title states, you get to be a T-Rex equipped with jet boots, and it’s your goal to travel through each of the levels. This game is currently in early access but the main features that are missing at the moment are the ability to customize your Rex as well as the planned co-op mode where you can team up with a friend to take on the game. This game is currently 20% off and purchasing it now will get you an extra copy of JumpJet Rex to share with a friend.
What do you think of this weeks selections of deals? Are there any deals that you plan on picking up? Are there any big deals that you think I missed out on?
