Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass will debut at E3 2018, developers Croteam and publishers Devolver Digital have announced.
The game was officially announced for E3 today (April 19th) when a teaser trailer was uploaded to the official Devolver Digital YouTube account. The trailer depicts longtime series protagonist Sam “Serious” Stone riding a motorcycle through an idyllic-looking landscape, soundtracked by a “Born To Be Wild”-esque guitar rock song (if you’re interested, the song being played is “Wild Life”, and it was created by longtime series composer and Croteam collaborator Damjan Mravunac).
While riding his motorcycle, Sam is attacked by one of the series’ famous Beheaded Kamikaze enemies, emitting its signature scream. Sam takes aim with a shotgun and blasts the enemy, which explodes in a shower of gore. As Sam rides into the horizon, he greets a massive horde, most of which are recognizable as long-time series enemies. Finally, the logo for Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass is displayed, depicting Sam alongside 8 other (as yet unknown) figures. That’s all we’re getting, it seems, until E3 this year, where more details about the game’s story, setting and gameplay will undoubtedly be revealed.
Croteam first announced that it was working on Serious Sam 4 back in 2014. The Serious Sam Humble Bundle was released in order to assist Croteam with the funding for developing the 4th game. As of December 2015, the story for the game was being written by Jonas and Verena Kyratzes, who worked for Croteam on cerebral puzzler The Talos Principle. It’s not yet known how much of what was previously announced or hinted at regarding Serious Sam 4 will be making it into the new Planet Badass version. The official Steam page for the game simply promises “world-renowned signature Serious Sam gameplay on a brutally bigger scale, and not a single desert level”, a sly nod to 2001’s Serious Sam, which took place entirely in Egypt. The game will, according to Croteam, be “an adventure full of bullets, guts, and one-liners”. Sounds like the signature Serious Sam tone is pretty much intact.
More details will be available about Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass at this year’s E3 conference, which will take place June 12-14th. Stay tuned for full, up-to-the-minute coverage of E3 as it happens here on TechRaptor.
