SEGA Acquires Two Point Studios, Developer of Two Point Hospital

SEGA Europe has announced the acquisition of a UK-based studio, Two Point Studios, developer of Two Point Hospital (Our Review). The studio was founded in 2016 by Bullfrog Productions and Lionhead Studios veterans Gary Carr, Mark Webley, and Ben Hymers. Two Point Studios had the goal of developing accessible games with understated depth, set in atypical worlds. The trio assembled a team of 17 other developers who had worked in titles as diverse as Black and White, Alien: Isolation, and Fable. In August 2018 they released Two Point Hospital to critical acclaim and commercial success. Two Point Studios announced the acquisition deal on Twitter and seem very happy to join other SEGA studios such as Creative Assembly, Sports Interactive, Relic Entertainment, SEGA HARDlight, and Amplitude Studios.

According to SEGA's announcement, Two Point Hospital will join SEGA Europe's illustrious franchises such as Total War, Company of Heroes, Football Manager, and Endless Space. SEGA says the studio will continue to work on several unannounced projects that they consider exciting, but will only share more news about them in the coming months. They reiterate their mission, called SEGA Europe's Searchlight initiative, which aims to seek out the best new studios that fit with SEGA's ethos to deliver new IPs with strong franchise potential. Gary Dale, President, and COO for SEGA Europe, had this to say about the acquisition:

We’re delighted to welcome Two Point Studios officially in to the SEGA family. As a relatively new, British-based developer with a global hit already under their belts, we knew we had to move quickly on this deal because they are an extremely attractive investment proposition with a great deal of talent. The Searchlight team at SEGA Europe have done a fantastic job integrating the studio over the past two years and the studio have gone on to produce a fantastic title with clear franchise potential.
Mark Webley, one of the co-founders of Two Point Studios, was also satisfied with the acquisition in his statement.
It’s a landmark step for Two Point Studios and we’re thrilled to be joining the SEGA family. We’re looking forward to executing the next phase of our plans as we continue to evolve Two Point County. It’s a hugely exciting time to be a part of Two Point and we are here today thanks to the hard work, passion and dedication of our small, but amazingly talented team here in Farnham and the incredible fans that have supported us throughout and guided our continued development of Two Point Hospital.
You can keep up to date with Two Point Studios through Facebook, Twitter, or their official website. You can also follow  SEGA on Facebook or Twitter.
