After suffering from delays since its announcement, the anticipated sequel to 2014’s South Park: The Stick of Truth is almost upon us. Ahead of its Tuesday launch, Ubisoft has announced what players will receive for purchasing the $30 season pass for South Park: The Fractured But Whole, which includes story content as well as costumes and in-game perks.
The season pass will come with two story-centric DLCs, both of which are set to come sometime in 2018. “From Dusk till Casa Bonita” has the player work with Mysterion and The Coon to defeat “a demonic presence” in the Mexican-themed restaurant featured in the show. The second big piece of content, “Bring the Crunch,” doesn’t come with many details. All it touts so far is a new story as well as a new superhero class. Both will each cost $12 if bought separately.
Included with the season pass is smaller pieces of content, like the “Danger Deck,” set for release in December. In this, players are faced with the “ultimate combat challenge,” presented to them by Doctor Timothy. Playing this DLC allows players to unlock costumes and artifacts. If bought without the season pass, it costs $6.
Finally, some day-one content will be unlocked for those who purchase the season pass, which is also included in the gold edition of The Fractured But Whole. The “Relics of Zaron” includes new costumes and perks, and it runs for $5 on its own. Additionally, the “Towelie: Your Gaming Bud” is unlocked, or it can be purchased for $2. This piece of content seems to make the show’s “worst character ever” (according to Cartman) an “in-game buddy giving tips.”
In total, buying each DLC separately will cost you $37, while the season pass costs $30. Whether the content is worth their a la carte prices or the total price remains to be seen, however.
The Fractured But Whole sets players in the universe of the adult cartoon South Park, and the game sees many of the show’s characters donning capes and masks, like superheroes. A prequel to the game aired last Wednesday as part of the show’s newest season, and it set up the story of how the group of heroes became divided.
Last month, the game ran into some controversy by revealing that your character’s skin color would affect the game’s difficulty. Ubisoft later confirmed it was a joke and purely for cosmetic purposes.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole drops on October 17 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
