Grab a grog and traverse the fog in the newest Sea of Thieves update, which is available for free right now.

Shrouded Spoils is true to its name, adding new dangers like the fog weather mechanic and plenty of loot to be had. The sea will become even more treacherous when thick fog covers your area, making navigation difficult and dangerous.

Meanwhile, new Megaladon and Kraken threats are emerging from the waters, more vicious than ever before. After you defeat these pesky foes, they drop treasure, so it’s worthwhile to fight rather than flee.

Skeleton Ships are now going to become “more unpredictable.” Rare added a Skeleton Ship battle in The Devil’s Roar, the area added in the Forsaken Shores update. Even little Skeleton Sloops are going to try to attack you – these are smaller, faster ships which require players to change up their strategy.

Further, six new Skeleton Forts are going active for you to invade. Fight off waves of skeletons and you receive a bunch of loot at the end. With this update comes Ancient Bone Dust which increases your reputation with the Merchant Alliance faction.

Cursed Mermaid Statues return as well. In a prior update, players would have to seek them out and attack them to gain rewards as part of an in-game event. Now they’re scattered throughout the sea and drop gemstones that any of the three factions can accept to give you money and reputation.

Some quality of life changes include less active volcanoes in The Devil’s Roar zone and UI improvements.

Then there’s a bunch of new cosmetics, except this time – along with a Legendary-themed Item Set – Rare allows for customized cannons, ship wheels, and capstans. Look out for the chance to buy specially themed ship cosmetics like the Kraken and Bone Crusher set.

Sea of Thieves: Shrouded Spoils is out now for all players.

I love to write, and I love to game. So, I've combined those two hobbies into one! Some of my favorite games include Fire Emblem, Halo, The Elder Scrolls, and World of Warcraft. Sometimes I like to read the occasional fantasy novel, too!
