Sometimes you can never get to that backlog of games because life gets in the way. Outlast 2 was one of those titles I've been meaning to play ever since seeing it on the show floor of E3 2016, but due to time constraints, obligations, and Destiny, I never had a chance to sit down and play the follow up to one of my favorite horror games ever made. In this new run of Scouting Party videos, Alex Parker and I decided to check out a spooky game to get ready for the Halloween season.
Developer Red Barrels Studio has outdone themselves with this sequel in every way possible. As our review states: "The thing about Outlast 2’s horror is that it is truly terrifying and gruesome, but it isn’t just blood and guts," and this couldn't be any more correct.
Outlast 2 is stressful. Even though I was playing the game with Alex in the same brightly lit room and making commentary on it, I was finding myself getting increasingly nervous and jumped a few times at the game's sudden scares. These feelings I was experiencing in the least scary environment possible is a perfect example of not only how well paced the scares and the beautifully realized the dreadful environments are, but also the games exceptional sound design and how the game forces the player to focus on the more grim elements of the game with the camera.
I was more than impressed with my short time with the game in the video below and cant wait to finish Outlast 2. Now if only the jump scares didn't get me every time ...
