Hideki Kamiya, the director of Scalebound, has commented on the recent news of its cancellation.

In a series of tweets, Kamiya noted that he was sorry to all players who were looking forward to the title and sorry to bring about unfortunate news starting the new year.

"All I can do for you is to promise to keep delivering fun games." he stated on twitter. Kamiya also said that he will work extra hard to never let his fans down again, and for them to watch over Platinum Games in the future.

Kamiya also addressed the allegations that he took time away from twitter on account of his mental health, simply replying with another tweet by saying "no way."

Kamiya also stated he is "quietly moving forward.” in a short blurb found in Weekly Famitsu Magazine, based on an article asking the ambitions from several game developers for 2017. Said survey was taken in 2016, but the time for it would line up with when it has been said Scalebound was canceled.

Platinum Games has also provided a short statement on their website regarding Scalebound's cancellation, echoing Kamiya's sentiments. "We are very disappointed things ended up this way, especially since we know many of our fans were looking forward to this game as much as we were." the statement reads. Platinum Games also touts its remaining game projects, NieR: Automata, GRANBLUE FANTASY Project Re:Link, and Lost Order as their upcoming titles to look forward to from the company.

Microsoft confirmed rumors regarding the cancellation of Scalebound on January 9th, but the project may have been shelved as early as last fall. Details regarding the cancellation are still coming forward, but by most accounts, it was due to conflicts of vision regarding the title between Microsoft and Platinum Games, with Scalebound falling behind schedule due to technical problems.

Gaming journalist and historian Liam Robertson, who first broke the news regarding the cancellation of Scalebound, noted through his sources that Microsoft was unwilling to compromise on Platinum Games regarding "dialing back key features" of the game, which contributed to the game's cancellation.
