Developed by the creators of the original Umihara Kawase; the latest title in the series, Sayonara Umihara Kawase,  makes its way onto the PlayStation Vita this Spring.

Following it's Nintendo Shop release in 2014 as Yumi's Odd Odyssey by Natsume; the Japanese owner Agatsuma Entertainment Co. Ltd is releasing a fully re-worked version for the PlayStation Vita under its original title outside of Japan. With the original Umihara Kawase released on the Super Famicom in 1994, the series based around a 20-year-old sushi chef armed with only a fishing pole and her wits has been a cult-classic for over 20 years.

Following what the series is known for, Sayonara Umihara Kawase uses a physics-based system along with its puzzle-platforming system. You will need to utilize your fishing pole as a make-shift grappling hook to avoid obstacles such as fish-like enemies, watery pits and deadly spikes. The puzzles get harder as the time limit gets shorter, adding a lot of challenge as the game progresses. All of this capped off with colourful graphics, fun music and a unique retro 1970's Japanese style.

Many new features have been added to the game for its PlayStation Vita release, including:

  • 60 new and re-envisioned classic stages
  • Bonus levels that unlock once the game has been completed
  • Global time rankings
  • Bonus unlockable assets such as  music and art
  • 4 Playable characters, each with their own unique set of abilities
  • Now running at 60 FPS
  • And as a special bonus, the entire Umihara Kawase game from 1994 is included
Sayonara Umihara Kawase is expected to release in the Spring of 2015 in North America and Europe for $19.99.
