Never got round to playing Red Dead Redemption? Looking for a way to play Skate 3? (I know I am) Then Microsoft's backward compatibility sale might be the answer. For a limited time, digital copies of 258 Xbox 360 titles are heavily discounted. Everything from the biggest triple-A games to the most obscure Xbox Live Arcade hits is on sale, so don't miss out!

Some of the biggest discounts include 85% off The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings Enhanced Edition and 90% off Just Cause - making the first game in the destructive open-world series a whopping $0.99. You'll also find Red Faction Armageddon available for 85% off the regular price.

If first-person shooters are more your speed, you'll find the excellent Battlefield: Bad Company 1 + 2 majorly discounted, as well as all three BioShock titles. You could also get prepared for Beyond Good and Evil 2 with 67% off the original.

Microsoft has been adding 360 games to their backward compatibility service at a steady pace, so it's possible that the game(s) you're looking for are now available to play on an Xbox One.

In other backward compatibility news, Sony's next console is confirmed to feature compatibility with the full PS4 library. PS3 titles are rumored not to be a part of this functionality, but that has yet to be confirmed by Sony. Although Microsoft hasn't been as forthcoming with information about their next console, they've made a big push for backward compatibility so it's highly likely that the 4th generation of Xbox will play both Xbox One and Xbox 360 games.

Quick Take

As much as I love the continued push for backward compatibility as a means of games preservation, this generation of consoles has been bursting at the seams with remasters and HD collections. I can't help but wonder if the excessive amount of remasters has made a lot of back compat obsolete. Still, there are plenty of games not yet supported and I hope Sony figures out a way to properly emulate PS3 games. Or at least stream them without input lag and dreadful compression.

Will you be snatching up some of these deals? Are there games you're looking for that aren't discounted? Let us know in the comments!
