Samsung announced its new series of Smartwatches today. Succeeding the Gear S2, the Gear S3 brings new features to Samsung’s Tizen based watch line.

The Gear S3 comes in two models – Classic and Frontier. The Classic looks like a traditional watch, while the Frontier is more rugged in appearance, aimed at athletics and outdoor use. Both feature stainless steel bodies and a rotating bezel that can be used to perform actions without looking at our touching the screen.
Samsung has packed the Gear S3 with a number of new features, including GPS tracking, LTE connectivity (Frontier Only), and full integration of Samsung Pay. Interestingly, that also includes Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST), Samsung’s method of using contactless payment on POS terminals that normally only support swiping cards.
Samsung claims “up to four days on a single charge”, however, the battery holds only 380mAh, making this unlikely when all features are in use. Internally, there is a non-specified Exynos model that is dual-core and runs at 1Ghz, as well as 786MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. Both models sport a 360x360 1.3” Super AMOLED. Because the watches are a bit on the larger side, the screens are round without the “flat tire” display seen on many other round watches such as the Moto 360. No pricing or release details were released, but it is likely to release before the end of the year.
