Saints Row IV has released Steam Workshop support according to an announcement on the game's Steam Community page.

Saints Row IV was not originally designed for modding capability. Modders nonetheless found ways to insert custom content into the game (as well as the preceding title Saint's Row: The Third). Proper mod integration required a lot of work by a special team at Deep Silver Volition. This work included general updates to the engine, removal of memory limitations, and adding in the capability for individual mods to work in the game without the need for third-party tools. Development of Steam Workshop support was a "labor of love" undertaken by a small team of developers working in their spare time.

The game's modding capability allows the insertion of new clothes and items, the running of custom scripts, and the alteration of gameplay mechanics. Deep Silver Volition took the time to specifically thank the Saints Row Mods website for working with them on the creation and development of the modding tools. The modding community also provided testing and feedback throughout the process.

Steam Workshop support for Saint's Row IV is currently only available on the Windows version of the game. Deep Silver Volition stated in the announcement that they're working on bringing this feature to the Linux version as soon as possible.

TechRaptor recently posted a five-year anniversary retrospective on Saints Row: The ThirdIf you want to hop back into Saints Row IV, you can take a look at what's available on the game's Steam Workshop page right now. The game itself is also on sale on Steam for 75% off.

What do you think of Saints Row IV getting Steam Workshop support? Will you go back and play the game again with mods? What do you hope Deep Silver Volition does next for the Saint's Row franchise? Let us know in the comments below!
