In a post on Twitter, SaGa producer Akitoshi Kawazu confirmed that an English version of SaGa Scarlet Grace is in development. The news was first picked up by Anime News Network. The tweet also says that the translation is not at a point where it can be shown off publicly at this time, nor give a date for the tweet. Later, Kawazu said that the Steam release of SaGa Scarlet Grace will only come in Japanese, with an English version "available at a later date." SaGa Scarlet Grace releases on August 2nd for Switch, PS4, Windows, and mobile phones.

SaGa Scarlet Grace is the 10th major SaGa game to be released, and was developed in honor of the series's 25th anniversary. Legend has it that every 150 years, the "Fire Bringer" brought chaos and strife to the continent. 70 years before the start of Scarlet Grace, the Fire Bringer was finally defeated by the hero and his allies, but with it fragmented the massive Empire, as the nobles fought for power. Utilizing non-linear storytelling, Scarlet Grace follows the stories of four different protagonists, as they attempt to stop monsters from rampaging across the lands.

All of the SaGa games feature the same take on levels and experience. Much like in Final Fantasy II, the more you use a weapon or skill, the better you get at the skill. Scarlet Grace also piles on a number of different systems, such as equipment determining the number of actions you can take per turn, and various skills shuffling the turn order of party members and enemies.

The SaGa series had effectively been on hold since the release of Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song in 2005. Late last year, Square Enix brought Romancing SaGa 2 to home consoles and PCs in a surprise move, but before that, again, the last English release of a SaGa game was Minstrel SongSaGa-inspired The Alliance Alive came out last month, though it was not published by Square Enix. SaGa fans have been waiting patiently for a return for the series, and it looks like their patience is going to be rewarded. With any luck Square Enix will have the English version of SaGa Scarlet Grace to show off sometime soon.
