S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 seems to be coming in 2021 according to a post on ResetEra.

If you're unfamiliar with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series of games, they made for a neat mix of first-person shooting and RPG elements set in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. The nuclear accident and another odd event some years later have caused a number of terrifying mutants and strange phenomena to spring up in the zone. These mysterious happenings led to the creation of otherworldly Artifacts which can be quite valuable, leading to the venerable S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s to journey into the zone in search of grand fortune. As for what the strange acronym means, it was apparently revealed to be "Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, and Robbers" back in 2012 when the first attempt at making S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was underway.

The forum post links to a Facebook post from Sergiy Grygorovych, CEO of GSC Game World. The translation of the post is as follows:

Today 15.05.2018 I officially declare: "GSC GAME WORLD DEVELOPS S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2"

Said post links to stalker2.com, a barebones website with the game name, a background, and a date of 2021 (presumed to be the release date). The website is registered to Mr. Grygorovych via a GSC Game World e-mail address, so this announcement appears entirely legitimate.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 originally began development in 2010, but difficulties with the game's development led to its cancellation and the eventual closure of GSC Game World. Thankfully, it seems that the studio has gotten back on its feet and they're keen to take another shot at developing the game once again. We've reached out to GSC Game World for comment on what exactly we can hope to see with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.

What do you think of the prospects of a new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game? Do you think S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be able to go head-to-head with similarly-themed franchises like Metro and Fallout? What is your fondest memory from the series? Let us know in the comments below!
