Update 2: Square Enix has confirmed the Final Fantasy XV delay today.
It appears that the highly anticipated Final Fantasy XV may be delayed to November 29 from its current September 30th planned release.
Reported on by Gamnesia and Gemetsu the sources originate from GameStop employees who have received information about changing promotional material from September 30th to November 29th in store. There have been some mixed reports on whether or not this is accurate, today Gamnesia posted an image of instructions about putting the sticker with the November 29th date over the September 30th day.
While this image isn’t definitive proof, photoshop still exists after all, this additional corroboration does make it appear more likely that the delay is actually happening. According to both sites, the promotional material will be going up after Sunday, August 14th, so we should have confirmation of it in the near future.
Both also stress that their sources have been reliable for them in the past. Gamnesia’s source according to them has leaked the release date and trade-in deals for the New Nintendo 3DS and the release date for Star Wars Battlefront. Gematsu’s source reported to them before the big reveal event about the game’s original September 30th release date.
We will monitor this story and do our best to verify what is happening, and inform you as soon as we do know.
Jason Schrier has joined the ranks corroborating the rumor, citing a non-retail source.
Confirmed with another non-retail source: FFXV delay is real.

This would be something of a surprise after the big hoopla Square Enix made about the release date in the spring, but it is possible. There has been repeated talk of performance issues with Final Fantasy XV and the delay here would let them further refine and release closer or with the expected launch of the PlayStation Neo. It’s tough to say whether or not this is happening, as employees at gamestops would be saying they have no information unless they trusted someone greatly due to the agreements in place and the fact it could cost them their jobs. Without having access to the sources here, this one is really tough to call either way.
Either way, we should know in a few days.
