It’s always nice to see a Japanese game finally being released in the west, even if after 23 years. Romancing SaGa 2 just received a new release on iOS and Android this past week and the creator of the series Akitoshi Kawazu announced on Twitter that a PS Vita version is in the works at Square Enix.

Kawazu has been tight in details, but just knowing that Romancing SaGa 2 will see a western non-mobile release is reason enough to make JRPG fans rejoice.

The iOS and Android versions of the game received a graphical revamp as long as other new features. Four new dungeons and a New Game+ mode have been added to the mobile versions of the game. There’s no word of new exclusive features coming for the Sony handheld but it’s fairly safe to assume that PS Vita owners will at least get the features that have been included in the iOS and Android versions.

The series is pretty old so many players mah have missed it. It also may have fallen under the radar to many others just because not all the Romancing SaGa games had a western localisation, including Romancing SaGA 2 until now. In case you missed this old gem, here’s an extract of the game’s story from the official site:

The Legend of the Seven Heroes.

As demons from every dimension threatened to consume the land, Seven Heroes rose to banish the evils to whence they came. Yet they vanished without a trace before they could revel in their victory.

Tales of the seven—Kzinssie, Subier, Dantarg, Noel, Bokhohn, Rocbouquet, and Wagnas—were told around the world, and many clung to the belief that they would reappear to bring order to the world. People raised their voice in prayer with each successive blight, seeking succor and salvation.

Peace eventually embraced the land without the intervention of the seven, and their story faded into faerie tales.

Nations rose and fell until only a select few remembered the Seven Heroes and their deeds of valor.

Yet eventually the peace was shattered and dusty tomes describing the Seven Heroes were unearthed. Though they did come as prophesized…

If you’re too impatient to wait for the Vita version, you can buy Romancing SaGa 2 on the App Store and Google Store for $17.99.
