Rocket League was recently updated, including new a bunch of new flags, bug fixes, some minor features, and more. The bigger news though is that Rocket League Ranked Season 1 has now officially begun.

Highlighting patch 1.05 first, the biggest thing of note is that PC users can now filter their matchmaking to exclude Playstation 4 players if they wish. Other than that, everything else is relatively minor except for a few UI changes/additions, such as adding the music player interface to all menu screens.

Most notable here are some improvements to the Spectate Mode, where you can now have persistent nameplates over the players to show their username as well as see stats for all the players. In Flycam you will also be able to focus on the ball while using it, and now have the ability on PC to use hotkeys for switching cameras between players.

For more specific information on additions this patch has given, outside of the ranked season, look here.

The other significant part of this patch is the beginning of Rocket League Ranked Season 1, which has reset all the leaderboards. How one is ranked is similar, with some changes, to how it worked in the pre-season. Ranking is based on Rank Points, which you gain and lose based on your skill rating, your teammates' skill, and the opponent's skill.

Rank points will change consistently throughout the season—unlike the pre-season where less changed the more games were played—and every time you gain 100 of them you will be promoted to the next Division, but dropping below zero wil lsend you back to the previous division. The divisions are as follows: Unranked, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum. Bronze, Silver, and Gold all have subdivisions of I, II, and III, and Platinum is reserved only for the top 100 players in Rocket League Ranked. Reaching Silver, Gold, or Platinum during the season will reward you with special items when the season ends.

Season 1 of Rocket League Ranked will last for the next several months. There is no end date announced for it yet, but it will be announced several weeks in advance of the season's end.

Are you excited to see where you land in ranked play in Rocket League? What do you think about the above system for ranking players?
