Rocket League Review

Pysonix’s Rocket League, which has sold over four million copies so far, is coming to retail later this year in partnership with 505 Games who will be publishing the title at the retail level. The physical edition, which is called Rocket League: Collector’s Edition, will be in stores Q3 2016 and will be released for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

What has also been announced for Rocket League’s physical release, is that it isn’t the only thing to be included in the physical release. Three of the previous Rocket League DLC packs, including Supersonic Fury, Revenge of the Battle-Cars, and Chaos Run, will be included with the release. There will also be “some cool, retail-exclusive goodies” that will be revealed closer to the retail release.

Both parties spoke a bit about the partnership with Ian Howe, President of 505 Games saying “We are honoured and excited to help Psyonix bring Rocket League: Collector’s Edition to a whole new audience. As big as Rocket League has become, both 505 Games and Psyonix believe that there is still a significant untapped segment of the gaming audience who become aware of products through physical retail."

Dave Hagewood, CEO and Studio Director of Psyonix said "505 Games are a proven entity in taking digital brands like Terraria and PAYDAY, and breaking them out through their long-established retail partnerships and on-the-ground expertise to a whole new consumer-base worldwide."

Quick Take

This really seems like a no-brainer for Pysonix. Rocket League has been a huge success so far, with over 10 million digital copies delivered if one were to account for Playstation Plus, and with the recent launch of the Xbox One version the sales can only go upward. For those who haven’t bought Rocket League for some reason, this is an good excuse as any to purchase the title. It will be interesting to see how Rocket League expands this year and retains its momentum, as competitive play begins to take shape all around it.
