Riot Games, the developer behind the popular eSports MOBA League of Legends, has been awarded the hefty sum of 10 million dollars after a lawsuit between Riot Games and prolific scripting and botting service LeagueSharp ended in a settlement in favor of Riot.
This all started back in August of 2016 when Riot filed an official complaint stating that they believe LeagueSharp was breaching the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA), saying that their service facilitated cheating by thousands of players playing the eSports game. LeagueSharp offered its services as part of a subscription service, with subscribers gaining access to a variety of hacks and tools for $15 a month, with a $50 tier giving you access to bots for use in League of Legends.
Tracking down the key figures behind LeagueSharp proved to be more difficult than Riot had anticipated, with the three German hackers behind the service apparently having started a shell company to avoid legal ramifications for their service.
Knowing that this lawsuit was imminent, Defendants have been quickly and carefully destroying or concealing evidence such as their most incriminating online posts and purporting to hide behind a Peruvian shell corporation created solely for the purpose of evading liability.

In what soon turned out to be the group’s last effort to avoid litigation, LeagueSharp hacked into Riot Games’ database and acquired personal information on one of Riot’s employees, threatening to dox the Riot employee. When this, too, didn’t work out as they intended, the trio of hackers admitted defeat.
As a result of our lawsuit with Riot, we have agreed to cease development and support for LeagueSharp and any other tools related to Riot Games. You also should be aware that using third-party tools in League of Legends may result in the suspension or banning of your account by Riot Games.
We apologize for any pain we’ve caused to players of League of Legends.
Now that the case ended in a settlement in Riot’s favor, LeagueSharp has been banned for life from League of Legends and have had to relinquish control of the website and their software in addition to Riot walking away with a 10 million payout.
