Nintendo has announced Ring Fit Adventure, a brand-new game that's similar in function to Wii Fit. Much like its spiritual predecessor, it also has a rather strange specialized controller for gamers to use — and it's much more complex than it first looks.

The Ring-Con is Smarter Than it Looks

At first glance, the Ring-Con (standing for "Ring Controller", unsurprisingly) just seems like a bendy piece of rubber that you slap a Joy-Con onto. However, it's a little more complex than that. The Ring-Con can detect how it's being moved and translate that motion into the game world.

Aside from the handheld controller, the Leg Strap is where you'll put your second Joy-Con. This effectively allows the game to track your leg movement and your arms through the use of these two controllers combined.

Ring Fit Adventure is Frankly Surreal

Of course, Ring Fit Adventure is a game that's meant to be used with the Ring-Con. Players will have plenty of levels to play through, using the Ring-Con and Leg Strap to attack or defend in turn-based RPG battles. Winning these battles will let you level up and progress through the game.

While the RPG battles are the major hook for this new Nintendo Switch game, that's not all that's going to be included. Quick Play will give you Wii Fit-style guided exercises without anything in the way of RPG combat. Several other minigames will also be available if you'd like to aim for a nice middle ground of gameplay and exercise. The game will also feature a "silent mode" that focuses on quieter exercises so you don't annoy your neighbors.

You'll be able to get Ring Fit Adventure along with the Ring-Con and Leg Strap for a combined price of $79.99 or your regional equivalent. Check out the trailer for the game and this weird new controller below, and await the inevitable memes with bated breath. You'll be able to get your hands on this game when it launches on October 18, 2019.
