An article posted by Japanese publication Dengeki said that Resident Evil VII will support cross-save features. However, this feature is going to be limited to Microsoft platforms, namely Xbox One and the Windows Store.

The article states that the upcoming survival horror title will allow save-sharing between the two platforms. It works both ways, too; you can transfer your save file from PC to Xbox One and vice versa. When asked about the feature, a representative from Capcom confirmed that it is legitimate.

Resident Evil VII marks the first time that a third-party AAA multiplatform title will allow such functionality between Xbox and Windows Store. It's unclear if this means that Resident Evil VII will be announced as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. The Play Anywhere program allows you to buy a digital copy of a game on Xbox One or Windows Store and receive the other for free. These titles also support cross-save features, which has caused speculation in regards to Resident Evil VII. When asked by IGN, who also confirmed the cross-save feature, whether it would be a Play Anywhere title, Capcom declined to comment.

This isn't the first platform-exclusive feature that Resident Evil VII is touting. TechRaptor previously reported that VR support for the title is going to be Playstation VR-exclusive for a full year.

However, the translated article revealed more about the game's features beyond cross-saves. In regards to Playstation 4 Pro and PC, Resident Evil VII will be fully playable in 4k resolution. However, this is unclear if it means native 4k for Playstation 4 Pro or if it uses checkerboard rendering instead. The game will also support HDR on all available platforms.

Resident Evil VII: biohazard launches on January 24, 2017. It will be available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Steam and the Windows Store.

Quick Take

It's pretty interesting to see Resident Evil VII doing its best to support the features of each platform. Allowing 4k on PS4 Pro, making the title PSVR exclusive for a year and allowing Windows 10/Xbox One crossplay shows me that they really want the game to be as good as it can be. I hope the game is great, but we'll find out in just a few short months!
