Capcom confirmed today Resident Evil 2 is officially being remade in HD.

Going off of Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 2 Remake will be a complete overhaul of the original Resident Evil 2, made from the ground up for next-gen consoles (presumably PS4, Xbox One, and PC.)

The next HD Resident Evil Remake will take some time till it is released, as the announcement came to us at the start of the games’ development cycle, meaning the game is far off from being finished. The games’ producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, left a special message on YouTube to announce the coming game, while wearing a sporting T-shirt marked “WE DO IT!”

Announcing the game this early in development naturally meant there weren’t many details to announce about the game. “It will be some time before we can bring you an update on this project,” said Hirabyashi.

Rumors of a Resident Evil 2 Remake have been pouring in for the last couple of weeks, mainly due to Capcom’s Facebook page. Allegedly, Facebook posts stated the game had been pitched internally and fans would have to wait and see how investors and executives felt about remaking the classic survival horror game. Whether this is true, or more likely a viral marketing gimmick (are we seriously supposed to believe the producer just started writing posts on their Facebook about a game that hadn’t even been given the green light?), what is certain is that the posts were met with reactions of excitement and delight.

Resident Evil Remake released in January 2015 to positive reviews regarding the game’s revamped graphics, while maintaining the atmosphere and horror of the original. TechRaptor gave Resident Evil Remake an 8.5.

How do you feel about today’s announcement for the new Resident Evil 2 Remake? Will you be playing the game when it eventually comes out, or does a remake of the classic survival horror game not interest you? Let us know in the comments below!
