According to a report from Polygon, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is slated to drop its single-player campaign, a feature that has been a staple of the franchise since its inception. Additionally, sources close to the game have also mentioned that Raven Software is working on a battle royale mode, making Black Ops 4 a more multiplayer-centric experience than previous installments.

The decision to have no single-player story was made after Treyarch, the developers of Black Ops 4, determined that it couldn’t finish building the campaign in time for release. Instead, the studio plans on fleshing out the multiplayer experience as well as the ever-popular zombie mode. A source close to Polygon said that there will be an emphasis on cooperative gameplay to replace the single-player experience, although as of now, no details have been revealed as to the meaning behind that. Could there be a new mode like Modern Warfare 2’s Spec Ops, featuring a series of missions to be tackled with a friend? Or is there going to be more focus on zombie-related content? Or perhaps something else entirely?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is also set to have some form of battle royale in it, courtesy of Raven Software. According to a source who spoke with Eurogamer, the battle royale may not necessarily support 100 players per match at launch, although the studio is working toward that coveted number made popular by other battle-royale games, such as Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. This was also reported by CharlieIntel and Kotaku.

When Polygon reached out for comment, an Activision spokesperson declined to “comment on rumor and speculation.”

Expect to see more information about Black Ops 4 at the May 17 reveal event, coming straight from Activision and Treyarch, the first official information since it was announced earlier this year. The next installment of the annual shooter is set to drop on October 12 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
