Alan Wake may be returning, if a newly registered trademark is to be believed.

A hell of a lot of time has passed since we got to know Alan Wake and his Stephen King-inspired escapades in Bright Falls. With the announcement of the game/TV show hybrid Quantum Break it seemed like all hope for a proper sequel had been lost. Until now!

A post on neoGAF shows that Remedy Entertainment, who were also responsible for Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, have registered the Alan Wake's Return trademark. One interesting thing (apart from the actual registration itself) is that the trademark process got approved for fast track, which would imply that Remedy Entertainment is planning on releasing something sooner rather than later. And, of course, because neoGAF isn't really a trustworthy source, you can read the entire thing on the European Union Database

Alan Wake's Return

Another interesting thing to note is that Remedy Entertainment registered the www.alanwakesreturn.com domain under the same proxy they use for all their domains. The site is a blank page at the moment but one would imagine that we will see it filled up with some content before too long.

Alan Wake got released for the Xbox 360 back in 2010 and got a ton of great reviews. Reviewers praised the game's lighting system where players used a portable flashlight as their primary weapons against an evil presence called the Darkness, which took over the inhabitants of a small town in the Pacific Midwest of the United States. The game's story was a love letter to modern-day horror literature and TV shows like Twin Peaks. A PC version was released a while after the original 360 release, and a short sequel called Alan Wake: American Nightmare got released for the Xbox 360 and PC platforms.

What the game is going to look like is anyone's guess at this point. Remedy Entertainment was developing an Alan Wake 2 at some point, but the game got stuck in development hell and eventually got cancelled. Some footage from a prototype leaked last year, giving us a taste of what Alan Wake's Return may, or may not, look like.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
