Today we bring you a lot of new guns! One of my personal favorites is the spectral shotgun called “Spooky Reaper”, inspired by the mod “Sweet Reaper” by ThoBeo. You can check the original mod right here, alongside his new Hunter mod “Scar”: Original Mod .
To access the cool new Spooky and Ducan weapons, you will need a bit of luck to dig out the new chest types. They are still missing art, which is coming next week, so if you see a bright green or dark blue chest you will know you have found a Ducan Chest or a Haunted Chest, respectively.
Opening these chests is not free, however – it will trigger a new unique Challenge associated with that faction, so think if you want to take the risk before opening!
Rogue Snail’s game development lineage includes common threads between the development of Dungeonland and Chroma Squad. A somewhat unique feature of Relic Hunters Zero is that it is an open source game with the code hosted on GitHub, something that allows for modding and collaborative development. (In fact, one of the new weapons was directly inspired by content from a mod.) According to designer Mark Venturelli:
We believe in making stuff we love just because it brings us joy. I started programming when I checked the source code of one of my favorite games of all time, Spelunky. We are doing this because we truly believe that the game can grow and become much better and more relevant if we build a community of modders and content creators around it, but that vision doesn’t go well with a pay wall. If it’s a good game, we can make money off of the next one”. So we are very excited to see what the community will create!
Relic Hunters Zero is free to play on Steam.
