Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan has provided an update on the situation with Reinhardt’s playability issues which we detailed yesterday. Mr. Kaplan has detailed what information they have discovered so far and what fixes are on the way in a forum post on the game’s official forums.

The post opens by stating that some issues mentioned by the player base (such as the hitbox for Reinhardt’s Fire Strike ability) have already been addressed as far as the development team is aware. The remaining issues are set to be put on the Overwatch PTR sometime on the afternoon of July 14th, 2017.

The PTR changes include an increase in the size of the Fire Strike hitbox and corrections for Fire Strike animations when latency comes into play. Reinhardt’s primary attack with his hammer is getting a few fixes and changes as well: the swing speed has been increased by 10% and a number of latency-related issues have been fixed. The Charge ability should reliably pin targets when you run into them including situations where you’re charging up stairs or ramps. Finally, a number of other unspecified issues related to network latency should have fixes in this next patch.

One issue that will unfortunately not be addressed in this patch is Reinhardt’s Earthshatter – it has been performing inconsistently in a number of ways including failing to properly stun enemies within its area or penetrating through shields (which normally would block it). Blizzard intends to fix this particular issue in the next patch.

Mr. Kaplan has taken care to note that there may be other issues that haven’t been addressed by the fixes being put on the PTR today – he has especially singled out the Charge ability in this regard. Players who have issues after the fixes on the PTR are advised to provide as many details as possible, with video and/or reproducible bugs being highlighted as especially helpful.

What do you think of how the Overwatch team is handling the playability issues with Reinhardt? Do you think that resolving these particular issues will bring the character back in line with player expectations? What changes or improvements would you like to see made to the hammer-wielding tank? Let us know in the comments below!
