When the New Nintendo 3DS was released at the beginning of this year, North America was only able to purchase the XL version. The regular sized New Nintendo 3DS and XL version were released at the same time in Japan and Europe, but one of the models skipped North America for some reason. You will finally be able to get your hands on the smaller New Nintendo 3DS in an Animal Crossing bundle on September 25th.

As of yet there is no news as to whether or not you will be able to purchase the system standalone by itself. For now, it will only be available in a bundle with the new Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer game, which comes with the system, the Animal Crossing Game, two cover plates, and one amiibo card. It will be available for $219.99.

Also announced was a new Nintendo 3DS XL bundle with the, called Hyrule Edition. It will be available October 30th for $199.99 and is described as being gold colored with “an intricate Hylian Crest on the front.” That is just a week after the new Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes releases on October 23rd.

Finally, there were also three new Wii Remote Plus controllers announced, inspired by Bowser, Toad, and Yoshi. These have been available in Japan since march and will join Mario, Luigi, and Peach.

Quick Take

It is really a head scratcher as to why both versions of the New Nintendo 3DS were not available at the same time. It really makes me wonder how many people will now decide to get one because they did not want an XL version. And that may not be the case yet as you can only get the regular sized version right now in a bundle. It all just doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense, but I suppose they are hoping this will be a sort of “second release” of sorts to garner new interest in the system. We’ll see.
