If you’ve been wondering what a 2D sidescrolling action take on Kingdom would look like, it appears that there may be an answer for you in the upcoming Regions of Ruin.
In Regions of Ruin you play as a dwarf who is trying to rebuild his race’s settlements. As you travel, you need to find people to help you build up this settlement, typically by doing quests for them and then bringing materials for them to use to build it up. Quests often involve exploring areas, slaying foes, and acquiring things folks need as you try to return your race to the glory days of old.
Regions of Ruin is being created by a collaboration between several small studios in Poysky Productions, Vox Games, and Phangd, with financial assistance from Humble Bundle. According to producer Alexander Poysky (an executive producer who has worked on two popular titles, including leading one through early access which sold over 700 thousand units), Humble has partially financed the title and they’ve been an amazing partner throughout the process of creating Regions of Ruin.
The plan for Regions of Ruin is to be in Early Access for at most 6 months, with a targeted 1.0 release of February. Right now Regions of Ruin has about 12 hours of gameplay, featuring the core systems of combat, skill upgrades, town customization, quests, and more all implemented and active.
Regions of Ruin will be released on Steam Early Access October 5th for $16.99, with a 15% launch discount knocking it down to $14.49 for the first week. The price will be raised by the end of Early Access, with a current end price not announced and likely to be determined based on how much they are able to add to the game.
