They’ve only gone and done it! After Rockstar Game’s teaser campaign for Red Dead Redemption 2, which we reported on earlier, the game has now been officially announced for a Fall 2017 release, via Rockstar’s twitter feed:

A short press release has also been sent out along with the announcement describing the sequel to possibly the best wild-west themed game in history as “an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland.” adding “The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.” So, as we speculated in our previous article, it looks like fans will be getting a full single player experience, along with a separate online component in the style of GTA Online as seen in GTA V.
Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games, was quoted along with the release, saying this about the upcoming game:
With Red Dead Redemption 2, the team is working hard to push forward our vision for interactive entertainment in a truly living world, We hope to deliver players an epic experience that builds upon everything we’ve learned making games.
Okay, admittedly we’re not working with a lot here, but it seems safe to assume at this point that Red Dead Redemption 2 will carry on Rockstar’s star-studded tradition of open-world sandboxes. Houser’s comments seem to suggest that his studio is looking to build on the dynamic environments we saw in the original RDR and GTA V. With spontaneous events occurring alongside scripted missions, and hopefully the same level of consistent world-building and edgy humor that has been common to all Rockstar’s open-world games.
Do note that the announcement is for PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. There is no mention of a PC version, and they have dropped the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.
Obviously, publisher Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar weren’t just going to leave at that; a teaser site for the game contains the tantalizing message that a trailer is coming our way on Thursday, October 20th at 11AM EST. You can be sure that we’ll be bringing that to you as soon as we’ve stopped watching it, re-watching it, then watching it again.
I don’t think we need to ask whether you’re excited for this one. Just try not to pass out before you make it down to the comments section and tell us.More About This Game
