Oxenfree - Preview

Oxenfree, the supernaturally themed adventure game, is going to be coming to the PlayStation 4 at the end of next month. Originally released for Windows, OSX, and Xbox One back in January to favorable reviews. It's not just that Oxenfree is coming to PlayStation 4 but it will also have added PS4 specific elements.

In Oxenfree you follow the lives of Alex and her stepbrother Jonas, who are planning on landing on an old military island and spending the night. While they are there they accidentally let loose strange phantoms that require them to work together to seal them up again. They are also able to use Alex's strange radio to communicate with some of these phantoms and even make changes to the world around them.

For the PlayStation 4 version you will be using the Dualshock 4's speaker and lightbar as a replacement for the supernatural radio. Other features planned for the PlayStation 4 release of Oxenfree include a New Game+ mode where Alex's story will continue with a "new purpose." After the ending of the game there will be content that will lead the player to new conclusions, locations, and more information about the world of Oxenfree. This extended story content will also be released for free on all of the platforms that the game is already available on.

Quick Take

It's great to see so many games of late not only releasing on so many platforms, even if they have to be spaced out releases, but that there is new content coming to the game free of charge. In a world where DLC Season Passes are getting to be upwards of $50 to have games like Oxenfree or Rocket League releasing free content is a wonderful change and a great way to introduce new players and to bring back old players.

What do you think of Oxenfree coming to the PlayStation 4? What do you think of the new features that will be coming to Oxenfree with the latest release of the game. Let us know in the comments.
