If you loved 2018’s God of War and want to know how it was made, you’re in luck. Sony is making a documentary about the adventures of Kratos and his kid Atreus. It’s called Raising Kratos and it’s coming soon to the official PlayStation YouTube channel.
Raising Kratos was announced to commemorate God of War‘s one-year anniversary. The documentary will explore the development process behind God of War. Sony is hoping Raising Kratos will be more than just a standard making-of piece. The blog post announcing Raising Kratos describes it as a “cinematic journey of second chances rooted in family, sacrifice, struggle, and doubt”. You can check out the announcement trailer for the documentary here:
To create Raising Kratos, Sony assembled around 400 hours of footage. The company says it wants people to see the passion and respect Sony Santa Monica has for its craft. We’re not yet sure exactly what form the documentary will take. Expect interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff, naturally, but if Sony makes good on its promise then there may be some more unconventional stuff thrown in there too. We still don’t have a release date for Raising Kratos, so we’ll bring you more on this documentary as we discover it ourselves.
God of War was released on April 20th, 2018. The game takes place many years after previous titles in the God of War series. Longtime series protagonist Kratos and his son Atreus must journey to the nine realms of the Norse world in order to scatter Atreus’ mother’s ashes. God of War switches up the series’ established gameplay, trading in cinematic action spectacle for a more weighty action-RPG feel.
