Mad Joker Games Inc. announced the development of Creatures of Enderia, a game that combines the monster collecting, raising, and battling of Pokemon games with the freedom and adventure of an open-world.

In Creatures of Enderia, players take on the role of a summoner capable of sealing wild creatures in their tomes and summoning them to their aid. Players can collect, raise, and battle with an expected 45 different species of creatures, each with its own set of learnable abilities. Battles take place in real time, with summoners commanding up to two creatures at once. One of the main draws for fans of Pokemon and other monster-collecting games is the promise of a vast open world for players to explore freely. Screenshots and footage of the game currently show the summoner visiting forests, deserts, jungles, and towns. To go along with the recent announcement, Mad Joker Games released a trailer for Creatures of Enderia featuring pre-alpha gameplay footage. The trailer shows the summoner traveling through Enderia's different environments, sealing and summoning new creatures, and engaging other creatures in real-time combat.

Creatures of Enderia has been in development since December 2017 and is tentatively slated for a PC-only release in Q3 2020. Mad Joker Games expects to launch a Kickstarter campaign for the game in March 2019. Late 2020 is still a long ways off, but in the meantime, prospective players who sign up for the game's mailing list are able to vote on the design for a creature planned to be included in the final game. Those interested in keeping track of Creatures of Enderia's development can also follow the game on Twitter and Facebook.

Quick Take

The idea of an open-world Pokemon-like game isn't exactly new, but it's still something I'd be excited to see executed well. Development is still pre-alpha, but here's hoping things progress well.
