Ubisoft have resolved an issue with the latest patch for Rainbow Six Siege on PlayStation 4 that was causing consoles to crash when loading your friends list in game. Players first began reporting the issue via twitter and the game's subreddit yesterday and Ubisoft responded with a statement acknowledging the problem and suggesting a workaround. At the time of writing, Ubisoft's most recent statement suggests that the issue has been fully resolved and that affected users should restart their PS4 to continue using social functions as normal.

The issue seems to have been isolated to the PS4, with no reports of Xbox One or PC owners experiencing problems. Ubisoft's advice stated that the issue was caused by opening the friends list and inviting friends from within the game and that the game could still be played otherwise. In addition, they suggested that playing three to five matches of 'Siege solo could lead to the issue resolving itself. Ubisoft's comments on Reddit also addressed unconfirmed reports that consoles had been 'bricked' by the issue, categorically stating that they had "Not a single confirmed bricked console as of yet. Crashing, yes, but not bricked."

For those who automatically download updates or downloaded it prior to seeing the warnings, this was a huge concern, with repeated crashes comes the potential for hard drive corruption. Players were understandably frustrated with being unable to use social features in a game that is almost entirely geared towards squad based PvP matches. It seems that it is now totally safe to download the latest patch and use these features in game. As an apology to affected players, Ubisoft are running a 50% Renown bonus event for the next 24 hours. It's worth noting that this is in spite of the fact that the error here seems to have been on Sony's part, though it is unclear at this stage exactly what went wrong.

Were you affected by the Rainbow Six Siege PS4 crashes? Have your issues been fixed? Is Ubisoft's peace offering fair? Give us your thoughts in the comments!
