Yesterday, Ubisoft announced that Rainbow Six Siege will receive price reductions while also updating the cost and availability of DLC operators.

As you can see, the separate editions each have different features. The base game will cost $19.99 and include all the game modes, maps, and all the base game operators. All current owners of the Starter Edition will be granted an automatic upgrade to the new standard version. They will now unlock Operators at a normal pace, and all progression and content unlocked will be carried over.

The Deluxe Edition will expand the player's roster by including the base game and all Year 1 Operators. The Gold Edition will include the Deluxe Content plus the Year 4 Pass, which includes instant and early VIP access to the 8 Year 4 Operators, 600 R6 Credits, a 10% shop discount, and more. The Ultimate Edition will include all the Operators from Years 1, 2, 3, as well as the Year 4 Pass.

With the introduction of the new editions of Rainbow Six Siege and the launch of Year 4, all versions of the game will have a limited time 70% discount. However, new players and Starter Edition owners who have been upgraded will see the return of the progression system for the original 20 Legacy Operators, with each Operator costing 500, 1000, and 2000 Renown based on how many Operators from a specific CTU have previously been unlocked. Operators will see a price reduction in Year 4 as well, as a scale will be introduced so that older DLC Operators will be less expensive.

Quick Take

Rainbow Six Siege has been one of the only FPS' that have been consistently good for the past few years. I've burnt out playing it, but after hundreds of hours, I've more than gotten my money's worth. Maybe I'll come back, but I doubt it. I like the idea of cheaper Operators, especially the older ones. I'm surprised Ubisoft is doing it, but they could always use the good PR, especially considering the hit-box bugs and other issues that continue to plague Rainbow Six Siege
