Radical Heights was definitely one of the most short-lived battle royales in the genre's history. It debuted in Steam Early Access in April 2018, officially called an "X-Treme Early Access" title, which still didn't stop it from being loved by none other than TechRaptor's founder in his very enthusiastic preview. Sadly, many players didn't feel that way, and some outlets even accused the developer Boss Key Productions of "cashing in on the PUBG craze," as an Ars Technica writer put it. A little over a month after the Early Access debut, co-founder Cliff Bleszinski announced on Twitter the shutdown of the game and the studio. The game's servers were officially shut down in July.
Now, as per a PC Gamer report, the Radical Heights trademark has been acquired by Squanch Games, the studio founded by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, who's also a voice actor with an impressive curriculum of roles in video games, including in LawBreakers (Our Review), Boss Key's slightly longer lived first game. You can see the trademark document below. Squanch Games' development credits so far include three VR games: Accounting, Dr. Splorchy Presents: Space Heroes, and Trover Saves the Universe, which will release soon, on June 4.
The trademark filing was originally spotted by Reddit user itsGerth on the Radical Heights subreddit, and as the date shows, it was fully ratified on May 7. Although fans are speculating a return of the battle royale in the subreddit, there's no confirmation on whether Squanch Games intends to revive the game in its original form, or simply use the trademark for another game. Their only development experience so far has been with single-player VR games, so it would be quite the leap into the wild and competitive world of battle royale games.
