Last week it was announced that Radiant Entertainment was being acquired by Riot Games. As a result Radiant Entertainment explained that they would keep developing their crowdfunded game StoneHearth but their fighting game Rising Thunder would be closing down. While the merger seemed a happy one for the two companies involved, fans of Radiant Entertainment’s fighting game Rising Thunder have been less than thrilled with the news.

On the game’s forum fans of the online fighting game have expressed their concern for the future of Rising Thunder and lament over seeing such an interesting game getting shut down. Founder and CEO of Radiant Entertainment Tom Cannon spoke up to try and better explain the situation with a forum post on March 10th. You can read the original Rising Thunder forum post here or on reddit here.

Cannon explains in his post that being bought by Riot Games was a decision that would help them achieve their goals of “ . . .contributing something big and important to the genre” of fighting games. Although Rising Thunder showed a lot of promise it seems the team didn’t have the resources to make it the big important game they wanted it to be. Some members of the community conjecture that Radiant is simply selling out to Riot but the CEO assures fans that this is “. . . not a takeover by Riot” and that the Radiant team will still have a lot of creative control.

Even though the developer’s post assuages some of the communities fears associated with Riot Games acquiring Radiant Entertainment, it still leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Questions like, Why did they decide to shut down Rising Thunder? and What is the new game the Radiant team is working on? Regardless of the answers, Rising Thunder is coming to an end on March 18th.
