According to an update posted on the PUBG Steam Community, developers are testing region locking in KR/JP servers. Once the update is applied to the live version of the game, only players who reside in the correct area for a server can join, with others being made invisible to them. This won't prevent players building teams across different regions though, something which the post clarifies:

"if a player in an exclusive server region forms a team with a player from another region, they can connect to and play on any of the servers available to either of them."
In addition to the changes outlined above, the KR/JP servers are being separated. Though it is not explicitly mentioned, this new approach to matchmaking could help ease some of the cheating which has become prevalent over the last few months. The Korean team working on the game have previously stated that they were considering region locking. PUBG Creator Brendan Greene recently voiced his concerns around region locking, stating that:
"I mean everyone that [suggests] region locking [is forgetting about] VPN. It just doesn’t work,”
The post goes on to highlight other upcoming changes to the game including a new weapon skin system. Players can select skins for each weapon through the customization menu, after earning them via the paid crate (“Triumph Crate”), which is a weekly random crate or “Raider crate”, which is a free non-random crate.

The aforementioned Triumph Crate is a new weekly random crate, with a drop rate of 20%. Triumph Crate can be unlocked using a Weapon Cosmetic Key, which can be purchased through the Steam market. You can check out drop rates for all items contained within the crate by visiting the full post.

As well as the new content, there are a number of bug fixes on the way, which are as follows:

  • Fixed an issue where the refresh button on the friends' list would take you to the team tab when players are in a team
  • Fixed an issue where when players leave the vehicle and the vehicle is positioned right next to the window of a building, players would go into the building through the window when getting out off the vehicle
  • Fixed an issue where during server instability, when exiting a slow-moving vehicle, the players would be treated as if they were hit by their own vehicle
This update follows the news that PUBG will be getting a brand new Event Mode which will bring custom game types, as well as exclusive gear.
