Proxima Royale, an upcoming sci-fi last man standing shooter set on the distant planet of Proxima Centauri B, will be coming to Steam in Q2 2018. A closed alpha is set to begin sometime soon.

In Proxima Royale, 60 players will go to battle in a 25² km zone of wilderness in tense bot-to-bot combat. It has all of the hallmarks of battle royale-style games including randomized loot, a varied landscape to trudge through, and (currently) not much in the way of plot regarding why these bots are shooting the everloving heck out of one another. Have a gander at the game's reveal trailer to get a feel for the graphics and overall aesthetic of this upcoming title:

Proxima Royale is being developed in the Unreal 4 Engine for the PC. Players will be restricted to a first-person viewpoint. The game is billed as "eSports-ready". Considering the state of some other eSports-ready titles out there (I'm looking at you and your long list of bugs, Overwatch), it's up in the air as to what exactly that means. Things are very light on the story front overall other than the knowledge that dozens of robots will be shooting each other on a terraformed exoplanet four light years away.

This looks like it will be the first commercial release from developer Vulkan Society. They are currently accepting signups for a Closed Alpha over on the game's official website. The Closed Alpha is set to begin sometime in March of this year. Proxima Royale will be coming to Steam Early Access in the second quarter of 2018.

What do you think of Proxima Royale? Has the little bit of the game you've seen so far piqued your interest? Do you think it will be able to stand out in the sea of battle royale-style shooters that are out and in development? Let us know in the comments below!
