In 1993, Gainax, the studio better known for its animation work such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, released the second in their Princess Maker series. Originally planned to have an English release, that ran into some issues and was cancelled, condemning it and the rest of the series to follow to never get an official translation. While some fan translations were done, the series never officially made it to the West, not even when the title got a remaster in 2004 with Princess Maker 2 Refine. However, this is 2016, and that means that this classic game is getting an updated release on PC and an official English translation.

In Princess Maker 2 Refine you play the role of a father who has to raise a princess who was bestowed on him from heaven. You were chosen because your previous actions had led to the defeat of an army of devils that had invaded the land, and now for the next eight years, you will raise the princess from the age of 10 to the age of 18. Each month in the game you set up a schedule for her, which will impact what skills she trains from things like etiquette classes to  part-time jobs to learn about the real world, all the way to swordsmanship. You must also be careful of her status and make sure she isn’t overworked or ends up sick, because when you anger a deity about how their child is treated they may just decide on some divine punishment.

There are over 70 different endings in Princess Maker 2 Refine, and while your goal is to end up with a princess, that isn’t the only place she could end up going. As this is the Refine version of Princess Maker 2, the game will feature full Japanese voice overs. Beyond English and Japanese, it will also be out in Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

The Steam version will support modern resolutions and will have your usual Steam conveniences such as trading cards and achievements. Princess Maker 2 Refine comes out on PC in October and will be $19.99 on launch with a discount for pre-orders bringing it down to $14.99.

Correction: We listed at first the price was $14.99, but that is just the price for the pre-orders. Its main price will be $19.99. That has been fixed in the article above.

I've been a gamer for years of various types starting with the Sega Genesis and Shining Force when I was young. If I'm not playing video games, I'm often roleplaying, reading, writing, or pondering things brought up by speculative fiction.

Well this, umm… should have happened ages ago.

Could do with a Long Live the Queen 2 actually

  • Fenrir007

There was a patch for the PC version of it that circulated the internet. I wonder if the same kind of patch will be made for the Steam version.

What a lovely news. This game is pratically a classic.
It’s good that those games are not forgotten and even get recognition.
The price though is a bit high.
I wonder if it will have a drm-free release too (suggestion, add drm in the game page).

  • Nice I will raise her to be a tyrant.

This has been my favorite game since I was little. Has the time finally come? Can I finally legally own a copy of this game? Shut up and take my money!

P.S. There’s a small mistake in the article. Your goal is NOT to make her into a princess. In fact, there is no such ending. She CAN marry the king or the prince if she becomes close enough to them, but it only adds a couple of lines of dialogue to one of the other endings.

What kind of patch are you meaning? Nude mod? I guess I wouldn’t be surprised as every game seem to get a nude mod patch anyhow.

  • Bobbbbby5

There’s nothing wrong with requesting that the game come with a patch that allows you to see a 10 year old FAKE girl in the nude with the Undress or in vacation photos.
Honestly, nobody should be supporting this disgusting censorship. Get the game from some abandonware site, install the uncensor patch, cheat in Mad Eddy and the Undress, and enjoy the game the way it’s meant to be enjoy-

Hold on, I hear a knocking at my door…

  • Derp Minos

Man I remember doing that back in the days actually :3
Anyway Refine does not have that originally and I really doubt it’ll be censored since the original SJW who localized the game did not work on that localization for the west.
