Prey 2 had been mired in development hell before finally being cancelled by Bethesda in 2014. From what had been shown, people were excited to play it. Being able to play a human bounty hunter out in the Galaxy that used crazy sci-fi equipment to catch space criminals sounds like a great idea for a game. However, this premise wasn’t enough to save the game.
There may yet be some hope for a Prey 2. An update has been made to the Prey 2 domain. Now if you go to prey2.com it will lead to a currently non-activated facebook page. With us now just being weeks out from E3, where Bethesda will be holding a press conference, has got many people speculating. This added with the fan site Alien Noire tweeting that a Prey 2 would be announced June 14th and was being made by Arkane Studios, the developer of Dishonored.
Kotaku writer Jason Schreier also recently mentioned the game. He said Arkane Austin were making it and it was “a totally new Prey 2” and that it would be shown at E3 2016 referencing a past story they had covered on it and what he’s heard about it.
If Arkane Studios has indeed been developing Prey 2 it is very likely this version could be very different from the one previously shown by Human Head, the original developers. A cinematic trailer first revealed at E3 2011 shows off the aesthetic they were going for can be seen below.
The original Prey also had a troubled development, first announced in 1995 by 3D Realms and after many iterations eventually coming out in 2006 for PC and Xbox 360. Prey 2’s connection to its predecessor seemed as thin as possible. Its name, as far as people could tell, being the only real connection.
With E3 so close it is not long now until we find out if these rumors are true. Prey 2 seemed like a very promising game so even when something as small as a change to the Prey 2 domain happens, it just gets people hopes up. Even if it is only a little.
All will be known (hopefully) on June 12th when Bethesda have their press conference.
