Dystopian vampire RPG Code Vein will launch worldwide on September 28th, according to developer Bandai Namco. The release date was revealed via a press release given by the developer, in which they invite players to "embark on a journey to the ends of hell to unlock [their] past and escape [their] living nightmare".

The game, which features gameplay totally somewhat inspired by the Souls series, takes place in "the not too distant future" where "a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world as we know it". Players will take control of one of the Vein, amnesiacs who battle the encroaching disaster using "Gifts" for which they have exchanged their memories. Abusing the Gifts, or giving in too fully to bloodlust, leads Vein to become "Lost", mindless creatures with no humanity.

Bandai Namco also released a new trailer on YouTube to accompany the news of Code Vein's release date. You can check out the trailer here:

The trailer sets up the story of Code Vein, as well as showing off some of the game's mechanics and aesthetic. Although the gameplay is somewhat inspired by the Souls series, gameplay seems to be taking a more high-octane Bloodborne-style direction, with hints of flashier fighters like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta.

Players will be able to choose from a variety of different partners to accompany them throughout the game, each of which has a distinct combat style and backstory to discover. Through use of the Blood Veil, players will also have the opportunity to drain enemies of their strength in order to augment abilities. A wide variety of weapons will be available for combat, including "bayonets, axes, and spears".

Code Vein will be available as a digital release for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a physical release for PS4 and Xbox One. A collector's edition will also be available for the latter two platforms. The collector's edition contains the base game, a 17cm figurine of in-game character Mia Karnstein, access to the game's OST, a digital art book and a set of in-game customization items.

In the press release, Bandai Namco also announced that players who pre-order the game from participating retailers will receive access to extra items. Here are said bonuses:

  • Three weapons from Bandai Namco's RPG franchise God Eater
  • Special Blood Veil "Venous Claw"
  • Communication stamps for multiplayer
  • Customisation elements
  • A special "blood code" called Harbinger, which offers "special characteristics" to its owner
Code Vein will be released worldwide on September 28th, with a Japanese release one day earlier.
