Pokémon Sun and Moon Starters

A new video from the official Pokémon YouTube channel has revealed the new starter Pokémon for Pokémon Sun and Moon. The video shows off the three new starters base forms and a little bit of the game as a whole. Pokémon Sun and Moon will feature a Grass/Flying Owl called Rowlet, a Fire cat Litten, and a Water seal Popplio.

We also get a look at what the new Alola Region looks like. It seems to be a take on island locations such as Hawaii (Alola - Aloha...coincidence?). We also get a look at who is likely the Professor of the Alola region and your player character's cousin who appears to be his assistant. The presumed Rival also makes an appearance at the 1:16 mark in the video.

The video shows the player character models for boy and girl, but doesn't show off character customization, although the Japanese trailer shows some of what you can customize (along with a heartwarming message about how Pokémon transcends cultural boundaries). The region looks pretty varied as the player character runs around small villages, big cities, what looks like ruins, and the map appears to show a dormant volcano.

Lastly, the video reveals the new story legendaries for Pokémon Sun and Moon. Sun will be getting a white lion legendary and Moon will be getting a blue bat legendary. No information about the story or evil plan of the villainous gang for the game has been revealed, so you'll have to wait a bit longer for that info to trickle out.

Oh and of course the new release date as  Pokémon Sun and Moon will be releasing on the 3DS for North America and Japan on November 18, and November 23 for Europe.

So there you have it, the new starters, the new story legendaries, a look at your character, and a quick look at the Alola Region of the game.

Update: Some new info on starters has been released, which seems to be the Pokédex entries for them.

Rowlet the Grass Quill Pokémon, Height: 1 '00 ", Weight: 3.3 lbs, Type: Grass/Flying, Starting Move: Leafage

The first of the potential partners is the highly adaptable Grass Quill Pokémon, Rowlet. This Pokémon can fly silently through the skies, sneaking up on its opponent without being noticed. It can attack its opponents using powerful kicks, and it can also attack from a distance using the razor-sharp leaves that form part of its feathers. Rowlet can survey its environment and turn its neck nearly 180 degrees from front to back, so it can see directly behind itself. When in battle, Rowlet turns its head to face its Trainer when waiting for instructions.

Litten the Fire Cat Pokémon, Height: 1 '04 ", Weight: 9.5 lbs, Type: Fire, Starting Move: Ember

The cool-headed Fire Cat Pokémon, Litten, is the next choice for a first-partner Pokémon. Litten’s fur is rich in oils and is immensely flammable. It constantly grooms itself by licking its coat, collecting loose fur into balls. It then ignites these hairballs to create fireball attacks. When the time comes for Litten to molt, it burns off all of its fur in one glorious blaze.

Popplio the Sea Lion Pokémon, Height: 1 '04 ", Weight: 16.5 lbs, Type: Water, Starting Move: Water Gun

The third possibility is the acrobatic Sea Lion Pokémon, Popplio. Popplio can create balloons made of water from its nose and utilize them to create a variety of different strategies and attacks in battle. This Pokémon is better at moving in the water than on land, and can swim at speeds over 25 mph. On land, it uses the elasticity of the balloons it creates to perform jumps and acrobatic stunts.

So what do you think of the new starters? Who will you choose? What do you think of the legendaries, and the new region itself? Let us know in the comments!
