Pokemon GO Grass Type Weekend May 2017

Trainers take heed - this weekend, Pokemon GO is having a special event where there will be an increased chance of catching grass-type Pokemon according to the game's official website.

Pokemon GO is an augmented reality game for mobile phones where players get out and about in the real world to capture the titular creatures and battle over gyms. Initially released in the Summer of 2016, the game had explosive popularity at its start. Although the player base has declined in the months since launch, it still boasts millions of players around the world.

This weekend, those players will have better chances of capturing Grass-type Pokemon such as Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Tangela, and Sunkern. These creatures will appear more frequently for the duration of the weekend, so if you're looking to shore up your collection it would be a keen time to head outside. The event began on the afternoon of Friday, May 5th and it won't be around for long: the Grass-Type weekend will conclude on Monday, May 8th. A specific time was not stated other than "Pacific Daylight Time", so people on the other side of the world might want to be careful about when they plan on heading out!

Pokemon GO is no stranger to holding special events. A Holiday event in 2016 allowed players to capture a special Pikachu with a Santa hat. More recently, the Water Festival upped the capture rate for water Pokemon & added a couple of new variants and the Easter event increased the variety of the adorable little battle creatures that could hatch from 2 km eggs.

Are you going to head out to try to catch some grass Pokemon this weekend? Which type would you like to see get its own special weekend next? How do you think the development of Pokemon GO has been going since its release? Let us know in the comments below!
