The conference started with Andrew House taking the stage where he announced that 40 million PlayStation 4 have been sold.

He followed up by officially announcing the PlayStation 4 slim. House said that the PlayStation 4 Slim will be the new default PlayStation 4. It will have all the same workings as the current PlayStation 4, albeit smaller, quieter, and more energy efficient. It will be replacing the regular PlayStation 4 and you won't have to wait very long for it.

The three biggest differences are really in size, weight, and power consumption. The PlayStation 4 Slim will be 265mm x 39mm x 288mm (width x height x depth). This is compared to the original Ps4, which is 275mm x 53mm x 305mm. As for weight, the Ps4 Slim will be 2.1kg, compared to the Ps4's 2.8kg. Finally, the Ps4 Slim will consume 165W of power, compared to the Ps4's 250W.

The PlayStation 4 Slim will also be debuting with a redesigned Dualshock 4 controller. The new controller has its light bar built into its touchpad, which should help keep the light off of people's eyes. In an interview Mark Cerny also said that the new controller can connect to the Ps4 and send inputs directly through USB cables to cut down on input latency, something they did with fighting games in mind.

While this is the first real announcement for the PlayStation 4 Slim, the console was leaked by a NeoGAF user a few weeks ago. A writer for Eurogamer went and found the poster to confirm the existence of the Ps4 Slim as well.

The PlayStation 4 Slim will be releasing officially September 15th for $299.

How do you feel about this? Excited for the PlayStation 4 Slim? Holding onto your original Ps4? Going to skip it in favor of the Ps4 Pro? Let us know in the comments!
