Star Ocean 5

If you've been waiting for more information about when you can get your hands on the next Star Ocean title then you're in luck.

The information comes from a recent Square Enix Twitch broadcast where the company reveled that Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness would be released in the west during the summer of 2016. While no official date was given representatives from Square said that they would announce a firm release date "very soon".

Famed character designer Akira Yasuda who has previously worked on tiles like Street Fighter II is also working on the game and should be a great addition to a series that cleverly juxtaposes intergalactic technology with medieval societal tropes. Check out the two spotlight trailers for the main characters below.

Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness will feature "seamless realtime battles" and boast a verity of attacks and skills depending on the distance to the players target. The battle system will be showcased on the next Star Log livestream which is set for April 12th. What is known about the story is that Star Ocean 5 will take place between Star Ocean: The Second Story and Star Ocean: Till The End of Time, the second and third entries in the series respectively, and is set on the planet Faykreed which is 6,000 light years from earth. Seeing as how the last entry in the series was released in 2009, having some new information for JRPG fans about when they can finally play the new title is a big deal.

It was also confirmed in the broadcast that the western release would lose the PlayStation 3 version of the game, so those who haven't upgraded to this generations hardware may want to do so. Star Ocean 5 will also have duel language support at launch, so players will be able to play in English or in the game's native Japanese with English subtitles. For players who prefer the original Japanese voice acting in games this is a boon that not all titles include.
